Follow Me!
Go back in time to just after the resurrection of our Lord.
Jesus is on the beach of the Sea of Tiberias.
The guys have been fishing all night without success. They obey the Lord to put the nets out on the right side of
the boat and catch 153 large fish. Jesus
has a fire and is cooking fish for breakfast.
They ate. (John 21:1-14)
Jesus asks Peter, “Do you love me?”
After the third time Peter seems to become a little impatient and
confirms, “You know I love you.” This
is Jesus way of telling Peter he was forgiven for denying Jesus the three times.
(John 21:15-17; Luke 22:54-62)
Jesus now tells Peter he is going to be bound and martyred at some future
time and concludes with the command,
“Follow me.” Peter, not liking what he has just heard turns, looks at John
and asks Jesus, “What about him?” Jesus,
explains that He is Lord. He deals
with each one of us according to His will for the advancement of the kingdom of
heaven and the work needed in each persons individual life.
Jesus repeats the command to Peter; “Follow
Me.” (John 21:18-23)
When I read in the twenty-first chapter of John the phrase “Follow
me,” it stood out like a mighty cedar tree which could be used to build on,
provide protection, give direction and be a life long goal.
And He said, "Therefore I have said to you that no one can come to Me unless it
has been granted to him by My Father." (John 6:65)
Before we are saved the Father puts within us the knowledge that Jesus is
the savior. Faith in God is the free gift of the Father.
Jesus calls-“Follow Me”-do we follow Him or reject the call?
When we obey and take Jesus as Lord and savior we accept the call and
begin walking a path that can only take us to Him in eternity.
Follow Jesus and: (To name a
few.)
1. He will make us fishers
of men. (Matthew 4:19) 2. We
will seek to do His will and forsake this world.
Put Jesus in first place in our lives and we will take up our cross and
do His will. (Mark 8:34) 3. He
will give us rest. We will learn of
Him, cease from our labors and He will give our souls rest. His yoke is easy and the burden is light.
(Matthew 11:28-30) 4. When
He calls we will stop what we are doing; leave what we are doing whether
collecting taxes or mending the nets and follow Him. (Mark 2:14; Matthew 4:20)
5. We will hear His
voice-through impressions and the Bible.
(John 10:27)
6. He will always be with us
and the Father will honor us.
(John 12:26)
7. We will become Jesus
brother or sister. (Mark 3:35)
8...and the list goes on and on...
The invitation is for you. Jesus
used the term whosoever to mean each one of us, every one of us
and any one of us. Whosoever
will may receive Him as savior and Lord. Now
is the time.
The only one command we can apply to every situation,
event and circumstance is...
Follow me Roman
Road 6:23
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life
through Jesus Christ our Lord. 3:23
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; 5:8
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet
sinners, Christ died for us. 10:9-10That
if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine
heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the
heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made
unto salvation. If it is not
for Jesus...It is for nothing
